What I Learned in My First Two Months of Building SKN GLD
What I Learned in My First Two Months of Building SKN GLD
Two months ago, SKN GLD was just an idea I was determined to bring to life. Today, it's a business that's taught me more than I expected—not just about skincare, but about entrepreneurship, consistency, and myself.
If there's one thing I've learned, it's that running a business has very little to do with just making a great product.
I Didn't Just Start a Business—I Became a Content Creator
One of the biggest surprises has been realizing that selling isn't enough anymore. You have to tell your story.
When I first started SKN GLD, I thought my time would be spent making body butter, designing labels, and shipping orders. While those things are definitely part of the process, I've probably spent just as much time planning videos, writing captions, brainstorming ideas, filming content, editing clips, and learning how social media actually works.
There have been days where I spent hours creating content and got only a handful of views. There have been posts that I thought would take off that completely flopped. Then there have been videos I almost didn't post that ended up reaching more people than I expected.
I've learned that consistency matters more than perfection. Every video teaches me something, every caption gets a little better, and every post gives someone new the opportunity to discover SKN GLD.
Every Batch Is a Lesson
I don't think people realize how much testing happens before a product ever reaches someone's hands.
I've experimented with ingredients, adjusted formulas, tested different fragrances, changed packaging, redesigned labels, and even questioned whether I was making the right decisions more times than I can count.
Sometimes a body butter was too thin. Sometimes the scent didn't last as long as I wanted. Sometimes I thought I had everything figured out, only to discover another way to improve the product.
Instead of getting discouraged, I've learned to see those moments as part of the process. Every adjustment has made SKN GLD better than it was the day before.
Preparing for My First Vendor Events
One of the biggest milestones has been preparing to sell in person.
Planning for vendor events has been a lot more involved than simply showing up with products. I've had to think about inventory, pricing, product displays, signage, payment options, samples, and creating an experience that reflects the brand.
I've spent time figuring out how many jars to bring, what scents customers would gravitate toward, how to display everything in a way that feels premium, and how to make someone stop at my table instead of walking past it.
It's exciting, but it's also a little intimidating. There's something different about meeting customers face-to-face. I know those conversations will teach me things that no online order ever could.
The Support Has Meant More Than People Know
One thing I wasn't prepared for was how encouraging complete strangers could be.
People I've never met have commented on videos, shared encouraging words, purchased products, and genuinely wanted to see SKN GLD succeed.
At the same time, I've learned that not everyone in your own circle will support what you're building—and that's okay.
I've realized that entrepreneurship isn't about convincing everyone to believe in your vision. It's about continuing to believe in it yourself until others begin to see it too.
Progress Doesn't Always Look Like Sales
Of course I want more orders. Every small business owner does.
But I've started measuring success differently.
Success is becoming more comfortable on camera.
Success is creating better content than I made last week.
Success is improving my formulas.
Success is having someone stop and ask about my products.
Success is watching my website get visitors because of something I posted.
Success is hearing someone tell me they love how their skin feels after using SKN GLD.
Those small wins add up.
Building More Than a Product
When I started SKN GLD, I wanted to create luxury body butter that actually keeps your skin hydrated without feeling heavy or greasy.
Now I realize I'm building something bigger.
I'm building a brand.
A community.
A reputation.
A reminder that consistency beats motivation.
There have been late nights after work making products, weekends spent filming content instead of relaxing, and plenty of moments where I've wondered whether I'm doing enough.
But every time I look back at where I started just a couple of months ago, I can see the growth.
The products look better.
The content is better.
The branding is stronger.
Most importantly, I'm becoming a better entrepreneur.
What's Next
I'm still learning.
I'm still experimenting.
I'm still showing up, even when the views are low and the orders are slow.
Over the next few months, I'm excited to continue creating educational skincare content, meet more people through vendor events, introduce SKN GLD to new customers, and keep refining every part of this business.
This is only the beginning.
If you've supported SKN GLD in any way—whether you've purchased a body butter, watched a video, liked a post, shared my content, or simply encouraged me along the way—thank you.
Every bit of support reminds me why I started this journey.
Here's to the next chapter. ✨
